Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

About Us

How long have you been in business?
Home Hands is a newly launched in-home care agency with deep roots in Rochester and direct experience in the senior care industry.

Where are you based?
We’re proudly based in Fairport, NY and serve Monroe County and nearby areas in the Finger Lakes region.

Who owns the company?
Home Hands is locally owned and operated by Connor Boyd, a lifelong Fairport resident who’s passionate about helping local seniors age in place.

Are you a franchise?
No. We’re 100% independent, locally run, and committed to truly personalized care.

Is your company licensed?
Because we provide only non-medical services, we are not required to be licensed in New York State. We are a registered business and fully compliant.

Do you have insurance?
Yes. Our caregivers are bonded and insured. We carry general liability, workers’ compensation, and disability insurance to protect both clients and staff.

Our Clients

Do you only serve older adults?
Our focus is seniors, but we can support any adult in need of non-medical home care — including those recovering from surgery or managing chronic conditions.

Do you provide care inside senior living communities?
Yes. We can supplement care in assisted living, memory care, or rehab facilities when additional one-on-one attention is needed.

Services

What does "non-medical" in-home care mean?
We assist with daily tasks like light housekeeping, transportation, meal prep, companionship, medication reminders, and stand-by help with personal hygiene. We do not provide medical or hands-on personal care like bathing or administering medication.

Can you help with things like bathing or toileting?
We provide "stand-by assistance" — meaning we can make the area safe, cue or guide the client, and offer light physical support — but we do not physically perform bathing or toileting.

What hours do you provide care?
We offer flexible scheduling — days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and even 24/7 care when needed.

Do I have to sign a long-term contract?
No. There is no long-term commitment. We simply ask for 72 hours' notice to cancel ongoing service and 24 hours for a single visit cancellation.

Will I have the same caregiver each time?
We prioritize consistency. While some schedule changes may occur, we do our best to keep the number of caregivers minimal.

Can you provide just transportation or meal prep only?
Yes, as long as the visit meets our minimum hourly requirement (typically 4 hours per visit).

Getting Started

How do I begin service?
We start with a free consultation to understand your needs, then create a personalized care plan. Once we match you with a caregiver, services can begin quickly — often within a few days.

Can I meet the caregiver beforehand?
We carefully match caregivers based on your needs. While we don’t offer pre-assigned interviews, you can always request a change if it’s not the right fit.

Will you coordinate with my family or healthcare providers?
Absolutely. We keep authorized family members updated and coordinate with other professionals involved in your care.

Caregivers

What qualifications do your caregivers have?
We hire based on compassion, reliability, and experience working with seniors. All caregivers undergo background checks, reference checks, training, and supervision.

How do you screen caregivers?
We conduct national criminal background checks, DMV record reviews, and in-depth interviews.

Do you provide training?
Yes. All caregivers complete pre-employment training and ongoing development in topics like dementia care, safety, and communication.

Are caregivers your employees or contractors?
All Home Hands caregivers are W-2 employees. We handle payroll, taxes, insurance, and training.

What if I’m not happy with a caregiver?
Let us know. We’ll make a change quickly. Your comfort and trust are our top priorities.

Billing & Payment

How much does your service cost?
We charge an hourly rate, typically between $40–$45/hour depending on care type, hours, and schedule. You'll receive a clear quote after your initial consultation.

Do you accept insurance?
We accept some long-term care insurance policies but do not bill Medicare or Medicaid. Most of our clients pay privately.

How do I pay?
We invoice twice a month and accept ACH, checks, and auto-pay options.

Additional Questions

Can I cancel or reschedule visits?
Yes. We ask for 24 hours' notice for visit cancellations and 72 hours to discontinue service.

What if a caregiver gets injured in my home?
We carry workers' compensation insurance that covers caregivers while on duty.

What if I don’t have cleaning supplies or food in the house?
Your caregiver can shop for basic items or use your preferred stores — just let us know ahead of time.
